Lesson Plans
I personalize each student's lesson plan based on the fundamental building blocks of piano.
Sight Reading
Also called a prima vista (Italian meaning "at first sight"), is the reading and performing of a piece of music or song in music notation that the performer has not seen before.
Reading notation, treble and bass clefs are the foundation for exploring the world of written piano music for any genre of music.
I provide all of my students with music books at no markup.
Music Theory
An understanding of scales, key signatures and dynamics make up the next step of improving your site reading.
This is also where we focus on rhythm & tempo. Every student is required to practice with a metronome to build a steady beat.
As we explore new music and composers, it is important to practice technical drills that train our fingers to effortlessly move up and down the keyboard.
Performance
Music is meant for an audience and my students are able to perform live at our annual Father's Day recital (the night before Father's Day).
In preparation, we focus on memorizing up to three songs that can be chosen from any style of music.
I help my students structure a practice routine between our lessons so that I can focus on posture and phrasing.
